FOUND ~ JULY 11, 2008

Gage:  This very sweet ball chasing silly guy was picked up as a stray on Flowing Springs Rd without proper identification or micro chipping.

He seems to have been well cared for and knows basic commands. He walks great on a leash and loves to carry a tennis ball in his mouth.

He is approximately 2 yrs old, golden red in color and ready for a new loving safe home which will provide him training, love and exercise. Will that be at your house?

Call 928-474-5590 ask for Lisa.

HAVE YOU LOST YOUR PET?

It's important to talk with as many people as you can. Talk with your neighbors, house to house. Contact EVERY animal shelter, veterinary clinic, rescue group, boarding facility, groomer, and dog breeder in your area. Call shelters, vets, and rescue groups in surrounding towns.

Make sure everyone has a picture of your pet, and her microchip and license number.

What you're doing here is getting all of the animal lovers in your community to be your eyes and ears.  And they will help you if you ask.

With cats, most of the time they are very close to home, so check in sheds, crawl spaces, under your house, and check with your neighbors immediately. Post signs with pictures today. Dogs, too, often stay fairly close to where they were lost, unless a well-meaning person picks them up and drives them out of the area or to the shelter.

Visit high traffic businesses like Laundromats, real estate offices, convenience stores and gas stations, and ask to post a picture of your pet. If you are serious about getting your pet back, post a sizeable REWARD to encourage a safe return. This will encourage someone with a profit motive to bring your pet back to you instead of selling him to someone else... or to a lab, breeder, or fight ring (yes, this does happen).

Call Payson Humane Society to notify us of your missing pet, but also please be sure to contact shelters in surrounding areas - you never know if someone has picked up your dog and driven him or her out of the area. Some folks have found their pets at shelters hundreds of miles away (yes, this also happens!)

AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION...

Prevention is vital. The best way to keep your pets safe is to keep them inside the house when you are gone.  Also, walk your fence line to be sure your fence is secure and that your gates are locked and can't be opened by your pet or a stranger. Your dog or cat should have a well-fitting collar, with current ID tag, and current rabies and license. A microchip or tattoo can also be a great way to help your pet find her way back home.

Microchips are available at the Payson Humane Society for $40 per pet.  To make arrangements for this procedure, please call the Shelter at (928) 474-5590.

Note: Microchips are great tools, but they can move around under your pet's skin. In addition, some new microchips, offered this year by Banfield Hospital (Petsmart) and others, are not readable by the scanners most shelters have. So have your vet or shelter check periodically to make sure your dog's microchip is still easy to read.
