Volunteer Spotlight ~ Volunteer Opportunities ~ Items Needed

This month our "Volunteer Spotlight"  is shining on...

BETTY RAVELING

This month we are proud to honor a woman with a huge heart and a dedicated spirit!  Betty Raveling has been involved with the Friends of Payson Humane Society (FOPHS) since April 2006.  She said the “impetus” to help out the Humane Society came the day the pipes broke at the shelter.  When a call when out asking the public to help with clean up, Betty knew it was time to get involved and, from then on, her life was altered.

Two years later, Betty is the President of FOPHS. It’s our Betty you will see at the Payson Humane Society table (the same table she hauls from place to place) at any given event from Payson to Pine to Strawberry.  Betty says she tries to “hit every event in the Rim Country!”  She tells people about the shelter and the need for a new building, she sells raffle tickets to help us feed and care for the animals, and she encourages people to learn more about the Friends of Feral program.  She truly is the Ambassador of the Payson Humane Society.

Betty and her husband moved from their farm in Minnesota to Payson in 2001, and lucky for us, it is here they intend to stay!

Thank you, Betty, from the bottom of our hearts.  We love you!

Volunteer Opportunities:

PHOTOGRAPHER NEEDED:

If you like to take pictures, and you love to photograph animals -- you'll  have a good time snapping candid shots of the beautiful cats and dogs here at the Shelter.  Photos are used on our website, Pet Finders, local newspaper ads,  etc.

If you would like to assist our regular photographer with this, or know anyone who would be interested in this volunteer position, please contact the shelter & ask for:

PATTI at (928) 474-5590

OUTSIDE THE SHELTER:

Help supervise dogs in the play yard behind the shelter.  Each morning, dogs at the shelter are taken to the area for an hour of exercising.  They have a great time running and playing and just being dogs.  And it's done wonders for relaxing them, helping shy dogs become out-going, and making them more adoptable.  Several volunteers are needed to help keep this program going.  People need to be in good physical condition, comfortable with handling 60 lb. dogs.  The hours are from 7:30-9:30 a.m., Monday through Saturday.

If you would like to be part of this great program and can spare a couple of hours or so a week to make a shelter dog's life more enjoyable, please call the shelter at 474-5590, and ask for PATTI.

GET SOME FRESH AIR

WALK A DOG

The Payson Humane Society needs people to walk shelter dogs. The shelter dogs get depressed when they have to stay in their kennels day after day.

They become more socialized and more adoptable when they get to be around people. You will enjoy seeing how much the dogs enjoy this. Some of the dog's "seize the day" joy will rub off on you!

Volunteers must be age 16 or older, enjoy being around dogs, be trained before walking dogs and be able to control the selected dog.

For more information, please contact: PATTI at (928) 474-5590, Email:  paysonhumanesoc@qwestoffice.net

REDUCE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE

IN A FUN WAY!

We need people to socialize with the cats by petting them, playing with them, grooming them, etc. Who knows who will have more fun -- you or the kitties?

Volunteers must be 16 or over, enjoy being with cats, and handle the cats gently.  For more information, please contact: PATTI at (928) 474-5590, or send email to:   paysonhumanesoc@qwestoffice.net
